People come to Northern for trains they can rely on, clean, comfortable and ready to go. Behind every fresh seat, stocked toilet and working light is a team making it happen. As Train Presentation Team Organiser, you’d be right at the centre of that.

You’ll support our Train Presentation colleagues within the Engineering directorate, helping them deliver spotless, presentable and fully functioning trains across the region. From managing uniform and technology assets to keeping budgets on track, your work keeps the operation moving. It’s varied, hands on and trusted, a role where your organisation and integrity make a real difference to both colleagues and customers.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be the person who keeps the detail under control so others can focus on delivering for our customers. That means:

  • Providing day to day administrative support to the Train Presentation and wider Engineering teams
  • Acting as technology asset coordinator – purchasing, setting up and distributing equipment, working with our Information Systems team and external suppliers
  • Managing uniform and personal protective equipment ordering, returns and replacements, keeping a close eye on the budget
  • Raising and processing purchase orders and credit card transactions in line with financial procedures
  • Liaising with suppliers to agree prices, manage deliveries and resolve queries quickly
  • Arranging travel – including rail warrants, hotels, flights, car hire and taxis – in line with policy
  • Coordinating hire vehicles and ensuring accident and repair documentation is compliant
  • Organising meetings, preparing documents and taking clear, concise notes, including for people case meetings
  • Producing regular reports and communications for the team
  • Running the Train Presentation reward and recognition scheme, from nominations to certificates and vouchers
  • Handling personal data responsibly and in line with General Data Protection Regulations

You’ll also play your part in maintaining a safe working environment, following all relevant health and safety legislation and Northern procedures.

About you

You’re someone who thrives on keeping things organised in a busy, reactive environment. You can manage your own time, juggle priorities and still keep the detail spot on.

Experience, integrity and organisation, that’s what counts here. You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience of working on your own initiative
  • A track record of handling sensitive information with absolute integrity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident organisational skills, even when plans change at short notice
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
  • Solid computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • The ability to take clear, relevant notes and produce accurate documentation

If you’re practical, dependable and take pride in doing things properly, you’ll fit right in.

Why Northern?

We’re more than just a train operator. We’re the heartbeat of the North – connecting communities, creating opportunities, and driving sustainable growth. With 2,500 trains running daily, we’re on a mission to improve rail travel and enhance the customer experience while protecting the environment.

Back in 1825, the first passenger train set off in the North of England, beginning a journey that would transform travel across the world. We’ve recently celebrated 200 years of the modern railway and, as we reflect on that legacy, our focus is now on the future as Great British Rail takes shape. Join us at this pivotal moment in rail history and play your part in our journey.

A place for everyone

The best journeys happen when everyone feels welcome on board.

At Northern, we don’t just move people from A to B – we’re building a team where everyone feels they belong. Our talent team can make reasonable adjustments to the process if that’s something you need. We're also a Level 2 Disability Confident employer, so if you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we’ll always offer an interview.

We automate parts of our screening process to remove any unconscious bias and to make sure every application is treated fairly. All successful offers will be subject to a DBS check and a medical assessment.

No matter your background, experience, or whether you call it a bap, barm, or cob… there’s a place for you here in the railway.
