Are you ready to lead IT Operations for Northern Rail?

 

We are looking for a dynamic Head of IT Operations to oversee our technology services, ensuring they are delivered professionally and efficiently. You'll manage our IT service delivery function, infrastructure, third-party relationships, and ensure our systems are secure and fit for purpose.

 

Role Responsibilities:

 

Service Delivery:

  • Ensure IT services are delivered to agreed SLAs with high-quality incident management processes.
  • Implement and maintain ITIL-aligned IT Operations capability.

Infrastructure Management:

  • Maintain and support our IT infrastructure, planning investments, and ensuring cybersecurity standards.
  • Deliver a fit-for-purpose infrastructure supporting a wide variety of needs.
  • Implement and deliver high-quality incident management processes.

Support Functions:

  • Oversee the service desk, promote self-service solutions, and ensure efficient issue resolution.
  • Set the standards of a high-performing service desk.

Change and Problem Management:

  • Implement ITIL-aligned change and problem management processes to prevent repeat issues.
  • Deliver expert problem management driving investigation and improvement.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage and develop a team of IT professionals, ensuring efficient operations.
  • Build a new team around the excellent staff we already have.

Risk and Supplier Management:

  • Identify and mitigate IT operations risks, ensuring timely completion of actions.
  • Develop a contract management framework, ensuring clear SLAs and performance tracking.
  • Deliver efficient service and supplier management.

Innovation:

  • Stay updated with new technologies and introduce solutions that benefit the business.
  • Deliver on a SAAS and cloud strategy.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Head of IT and other stakeholders to align IT services with business priorities.
  • Build relationships and confidence of stakeholders across Northern.

What We Are Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant field.

Experience:

  • High level of experience leading an IT Operations function, with proven vendor management and cloud migration experience.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with COBIT, Sarbanes-Oxley, ITIL, and cybersecurity issues.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A people person with experience managing a variety of stakeholders.
  • Good technical knowledge combined with strong soft skills to motivate a team and build relationships.
  • Vision and experience of delivering a high-performing IT operation.
  • The ability to drive transformation and lead effectively within a complex organisation.
  • Someone personable, respectful, and constructively challenging.

  • Reduced incidents and repeat problems.

  • Clear performance against SLAs.
  • Successful cybersecurity audits.
